Community Action Agency Emergency Services (CSBG)

Administered by U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services / Local Community Action Agencies · acf.gov

Community Action Agencies (CAAs) in 99% of US counties use federal CSBG funds to provide rapid emergency assistance — rent, utilities, food, transportation, and other acute needs. Can often authorize payment within 48–72 hours.

Eligibility requirements

  • Household income below 125% FPL in most agencies
  • Resident of the agency's service area
  • Facing an acute financial crisis
Insider tip

Find your local Community Action Agency at communityactionpartnership.com or by calling 2-1-1. CAAs are the fastest route to emergency funds — they are specifically designed for rapid response and have discretion to help with unusual needs that state programs won't cover. Call and say exactly what your crisis is.
