  • Children, pregnant women, and elderly/disabled at lower thresholds in all states
  • US citizen or qualified immigrant

You can apply for Medicaid any time — unlike Marketplace plans, there's no open enrollment deadline. Apply as soon as you lose income or insurance. Benefits can be retroactive up to 3 months if you had qualifying expenses. Apply through healthcare.gov or your state Medicaid office.
