NC Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) Energy Assistance

Administered by NC Dept of Health & Human Services · ncdhhs.gov

NC CIP provides emergency energy assistance for households facing utility disconnection or with life-threatening heating/cooling needs. Available year-round unlike regular LIHEAP.

Eligibility requirements

  • NC resident
  • Income below 130% poverty level
  • Facing disconnection or life-threatening situation
Insider tip

NC CIP has faster processing than regular energy assistance — often same-week payment directly to utility. Contact your county DSS office and ask specifically for CIP, not regular LIHEAP.
