Vocational Rehabilitation for Illness/Injury Recovery

Administered by U.S. Dept of Education — Rehabilitation Services · rsa.ed.gov

VR services help people recovering from stroke, heart attack, traumatic injury, or serious illness return to work. Covers physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, job retraining, and workplace modifications.

Eligibility requirements

  • Disability or health condition affecting ability to work
  • Reasonable expectation of benefit from VR services
  • US citizen or authorized resident
Insider tip

VR can fund ongoing outpatient therapy that insurance stops covering. If your uncle needs speech therapy, PT, or OT beyond what Medicare covers, VR can continue funding it as part of a return-to-work plan — even if returning part-time.
