Texas CHIP Perinatal

Health coverage for pregnant women in Texas who do not qualify for full Medicaid because of income or immigration status. Covers prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care for the mother. The newborn receives 12 months of continuous coverage starting at birth. Particularly important in Texas given the state did not expand Medicaid and has a large undocumented population.

Eligibility requirements

  • Pregnant women who are Texas residents with household income up to 202% FPL who are not eligible for full Medicaid. No citizenship requirement for the pregnant woman, making this program available to undocumented mothers.
